Mold Making Resin Lighted Assemblage |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Instructor: Kim Edwards KeastDescription: Creating a personalized lighted sculpture we will start on day one learning how to cast a small found object or treasure you bring from home. We will create a mold and cast with 2 differnt types of resin that will then be incorporated into our sculpture. With found materials such as wood, metal, fapric, & wire we design and build our structures. Day 2 we will learn basic lamp wiring to incorporate the lighted element into the assemblage. We will continue to finalize our structures and complete our designs while we incorporate our cast resin forms and lighted elemnts.

Kim is an established and prolific 3-dimensional artist who approaches her conceptual process with the idea that art never quits, that art shouldn’t always be pretty. Kim lives for experimentation, delves into directional artistic series of all types and sizes. Collections of found and unearthed objects are found in her exploratory and versatile constructions, some of which become assemblages, and towers up to 8 feet in height. She works with large pieces of wood, metal, paper, wire, paint, and resin often using encaustics as a conduit. Her free form fiber sculptures are crocheted with yarns, fabric, and wire, into huge extra-terrestrial-like extensions. “As a multi media artist, I explore, invent, and create; a scientist in my art, combining, layering, with mixed materials and objects. My hybrid art forms are a result of this process, often inspired by the anti-ism of the Modern Art movement, Dadaism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism. In my work there is assemblage, disassemble, collage, de-collage, elements built up and torn down to arrive at the finished piece. Intrigued with textures, transparencies, light, and space and how these elements play against each other I become obsessed with the unknown concepts of the contemporary art movement.”
