Description:
Combining monotype with encaustic’s textural elements is a process that explodes beyond the boundaries of printmaking! Matrices of wax are built onto plexiglass, then we apply water based inks, wipe free the excess ink, and run it through an intaglio press to be printed on paper. These techniques can produce subtle and mysterious marks, allowing for variable prints or editions. Mixing inks, modifying, rolling out a flat, use and abuse of mark- making tools will be explored, along with multiple plates and registration techniques. Collage and chine colle will be discussed, along with encaustic inlaying and incising techniques.
Day 1: Beginning Encaustic Painting workshop
Elise Wagner will cover the rudiments of encaustic methods & tools. We create an encaustic painting on panel, then onto a plexiglass plate to create textured collagaphs ready for color application and printing with Jane the next day.
Day 2: We use an etching press to produce collagraphs and monoprints from the encaustic plates. Some printmaking experience is helpful but not required.
Day 3: Those taking the three-day format have extra time to print and make more work.
Participants are encouraged to bring any tools or brushes you like using. Bring textural elements, such as feathers, leaves, fabric like burlap and lace or string.

When registering for a workshop with exPRESSive Arts Studio, whether online or via mailed registration form, participant agrees to the terms below.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY & REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICIES
LAST DAY TO WITHDRAW WITH REFUND (minus a $75 processing fee) is 30 days prior to workshop. After this time no refund can be given unless the workshop is completely filled. Minimum enrollment varies.
If minimum enrollment is not met (this rarely happens), you will be notified immediately following the 30 day mark and full refund will be made. However, no discounts or refunds can be given for your late arrival or early departure. Under no circumstances are we responsible for your non refundable hotel or airline charges, so you may want to wait until this time to make plane reservations. Applicable refunds are made within four weeks.
Liability Waiver: The below named participant, on behalf of himself or herself, and all agents, employees, assignees, administrators, or executors, hereby releases, discharges, and waives all claims of liability against exPRESSive Arts Studio, Karon Leigh, The Amado Territory Ranch and/or their employees for any injuries, damages, or loss of any kind that might be sustained while participating in any workshop through exPRESSive Arts Studio, or for any health condition, new or preexisting, that might develop or be affected or aggravated as a result of participation. We can not reduce or waive these terms in the event of circumstances beyond our control such as illness, flight cancellations, war, terrorist attacks, injury or death, natural disaster, or force majeure. If, for reasons beyond our control, we are forced to cancel the workshop, we will do our best to provide a suitable alternative within the year. If any sentence of this agreement is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance thereof shall continue in full legal force and effect.
