There are many different types of printmaking which include but are not limited to, lithograph, collagraph, serigraph, etching, and woodblock prints. Most printmaking methods offer multiples of a single image as a hard or incised plate is used.
Monotypes are created from a clean plate and are usually a single image without multiple reproductions of the image. The term “ghost” refers to a second pull from the monotype plate which will often have a similar image but is not considered a multiple of the same image. It is often used as a starting point for a new original work of art.
